The one question I always ask
“What are you actually trying to achieve with the hens party?”
Absolutely 100%, for me it’s that question. I find this really opens up the conversation both ways and gets us all thinking about the elements that are actually important on the day.
Organising a hens is anxiety central
Organising a celebration like a hens is just anxiety central. First hand, the pressure that everyone puts on you to try and align the plan with their own vision of what it should look like versus what’s actually important to the Hen is so often the cause of so much drama and conflict.
I’m a problem solver by nature
On a discovery call, my number 1 priority is to identify what hidden problem the organiser is faced with, and getting as much info as I can, and all the little clues that might be missed, and from all that info, try to find a solution that works best for the guest of honour, and everyone that they want to celebrate with.
A Maid of Honour I spoke to recently
I was talking to a Maid of Honour recently that was planning a Hens party for her bestie, but she had never done something like this before. Once we got talking, she voiced all of her concerns about competing ideas, and the group chat, the social pressure, and how heavy it all felt to carry, but after listening and clarifying my understanding of the issues that she was faced with, I could sense a shift in her attitude towards the whole planning process.
From there she really opened up, and we shared a few jokes and worked together like a house on fire, and after a little back and forth, we actually came up with a plan that was perfect for the Bride to be and the group celebrating her. She was so thankful by the time she went to book, and I remember how happy I felt being able to solve a problem that almost seemed unapproachable at first.
Job done?
I would feel like I did my job properly when after the night is coming to the end the organiser has that quiet thought to themself that it just went without a hitch, and everyone just had the best time, looking around at their friends smiling, and knowing that they are the one that made it happen.
