The hens perfume house

Hens perfume making, and a scent that smells like her best night

Every girl blends and bottles her own. The bride’s gets a name.

Know her city?

What happens at a hens perfume making class

A table of little amber bottles, a drink in hand, and every girl insisting she knows exactly what the bride should smell like.

Hens perfume making with My Ultimate Hens means a fragrance expert showing the group how a perfume builds from the top to the base, then everyone blends and bottles her own perfume to take home, with cocktails, share plates and a VIP booth built around it. It’s make your own perfume, with her girls at the table and the night already booked.

Like every good perfume, the day has three layers. Tap one to jump ahead.

In a hurry? What it costs · Her city · Tell us about her

  1. Your own private room, cocktail in handA round of cocktails lands as you walk in. Aprons on, because nobody wants perfume oil on the good dress.
  2. The sniffing, one bottle at a timeYour fragrance expert has the whole perfume lab set up and walks the group through each scent on its own. The room splits into camps almost instantly.
  3. Top to base, then everyone blendsYour expert shows you how a top note, a heart note and a base note play together, and the real mixing begins. Watching the bride build hers, with a table of her girls leaning in, is the moment of the afternoon.
  4. Bottled, labelled, yoursEach perfume goes into a glass bottle with a custom label and a personalised scent profile card, and every bottle comes home with you.
  5. Then the day keeps goingShare plates and a bonus cocktail for your hen, then a velvet VIP booth with a surprise bottle of bubbly for her. See the whole day.

That’s how our ready-made Melbourne perfume days run: two hours of private room for the blending, then the night. Other cities and formats are built to order, so the shape can change.

04 the heart

Ways to do perfume making for a hens, from your own bottle to a perfume bar

Same idea, five moods. Tap the one that sounds like her and it follows you down to the form.

Ready-made in Melbourne

Make your own perfume

The classic. A fragrance expert, a table of scents, a private room and a cocktail on arrival. Everyone smells her way through the shelf, learns how the top, heart and base fit together, then blends her own.

What goes home: her perfume in a glass bottle with a custom label, plus a scent profile card.

On request in her city

Natural and botanical perfume

Essential oils and botanicals instead of a classic perfume base, usually blended into a little roll-on. It’s the softer, greener cousin, and it suits the wellness bride and the girls who like to know exactly what’s in the bottle.

What goes home: usually a roll-on of her own blend. We confirm the details for your city and date.

On request in her city

A perfume bar at the hens house

The wedding-world trend: a styled bar of bottles set up at your accommodation or venue, where everyone mixes her own between drinks. No getting anyone out the door, which the morning-after crew will appreciate.

What goes home: each girl’s own mini blend. Set-up, timing and space depend on where you’re staying, so we check it first.

The bride’s moment

Her wedding scent

Some brides walk out with the scent they wear down the aisle. Some just walk out with a very good story. Either way, every bridesmaid takes one home too.

More: how a hens blend becomes a wedding scent.

Cocktails in Melbourne, the rest on request

Perfume with cocktails, bubbles or high tea

Our Melbourne perfume days open with a round of cocktails the minute you walk in. Prefer it daytime and dainty? A perfume class with high tea or a glass of bubbles is the one to ask for when mum and the aunties are coming.

What goes home: the perfume, and the photo of the bottles lined up next to the drinks.

Thinking further out? Solid perfume, cologne for the groom, or a sound bath with a scent session for the wellness crowd: just ask. And in Sydney, our candle making hens has everyone blending her own signature scent into a candle she pours herself. If the bride loves the house smelling as good as she does, that one’s for her.

05 her wedding scent

A scent for the wedding day, and one for every girl standing up there with her

The rings are sorted, the dress is sorted. Now she gets to choose what the day smells like.

If she wants to, the bride can wear the perfume she blends at her hens on the wedding day, so walking down the aisle smells like the best afternoon she had with her girls.

No pressure on it. Some brides find their wedding scent at the table. Some find a perfume that smells exactly like the bridesmaid who wouldn’t stop adding vanilla, and wear it to brunch forever. And every bridesmaid bottles her own, which is the bridesmaid perfume gift all over TikTok right now, made by hand with a story attached.

Tip for the organiser: get the photo of the bride holding her finished bottle up to the light, and keep her scent profile card somewhere safe. If she falls in love with her blend, ask us and we’ll find out what the expert can do about more of it.

Did you know?Smell is wired more directly than any other sense into the parts of the brain that handle emotion and memory, which is why one spritz can take you straight back to a moment. Harvard Medicine magazine explains it.

06 before you go

What to wear, bring and know for a hens perfume class

The one day she should leave her signature scent at home. We know. We’re sorry. It’s worth it.

All in

Everyone in the colour of her scent family: blush for the garden party, black for out till late, white linen for the sunshine one.

Dress code: we’re all in one colour from her scent family, the bride is in white, and nobody wears perfume. Trust the process.

One hero piece

Your own outfit, plus one thing that matches: a pearl, a satin bow, a gold necklace with her initial.

Dress code: wear what you love, add one pearl or one bow, and skip the perfume. You’re about to make some.

Just the bride

Everyone in whatever, the bride in a white satin set and a veil, so she’s the first thing every photo sees.

Dress code: come as you are. The bride is in white. Fragrance-free, please, we’re working.

  • Skip perfume and strong body spray on the day. It muddies the scent strips for you and everyone next to you. Deodorant is very welcome.
  • Aprons are on us at our Melbourne perfume days, so the good dress survives. Elsewhere, we tell you what’s supplied when we confirm.
  • Bring a big enough handbag. Everyone takes her bottle home, and the scent profile card that goes with it.
  • Allergies, sensitive skin or a pregnant bride? Tell us when you enquire, so it’s part of the conversation with the fragrance expert before anything is booked.
  • Feed the girls first if it’s an afternoon start. The share plates come after the blending, and cocktails on an empty stomach make for very creative perfume.

07 the jugs

Perfume hens cocktails, by the jug

Three jugs that taste the way her scent family smells, and one for the girls who aren’t drinking. Tell us how many, we do the maths.

10girls, bride included

The Rose Garden

For the garden party bride.

  • rosé
  • lychee juice
  • soda water
  • A few drops of rosewater, lots of ice, rose petals if you’re fancy

The Top Note

For the sunshine one.

  • prosecco
  • elderflower cordial
  • soda water
  • Mint and lemon slices, over a lot of ice

The Vanilla Pear Fizz

For the dessert-first bride.

  • pear juice
  • vanilla vodka
  • sparkling wine, on top
  • A pear slice on the rim
Zero proof

The Lavender Lemonade

For the non-drinkers, the drivers and the bump.

  • sparkling lemonade
  • lemon juice
  • lavender syrup
  • A lavender sprig, if the garden has one

Our suggestions for pre-drinks or a BYO room, not part of any package. Recipes are a starting point: taste as you go. The Amber Hour and After Dark in the vibes above are made the same way, one shot of spirit per girl, topped long.

08 at the table

Blind sniff tests and table challenges for a perfume hens

Four challenges that turn a table of scent strips into the loudest table in the room. Copy the rules into the group chat.

Once the bottles are full

The blind sniff

  1. One girl closes her eyes. Someone wafts a finished bottle under her nose.
  2. She has ten seconds to name the maker, or describe it in three words.
  3. “Grandma’s bathroom” counts as a description. It scores no points.
  4. Most right answers picks the next song.

At dinner

Whose blend is whose?

  1. Everyone puts her finished bottle in the middle, labels turned away.
  2. The bride sniffs each one and guesses who made it.
  3. One point for every right guess. A sip of her drink (mocktails count) for every wrong one.
  4. The girl whose blend she loves most gets to keep the bride’s seat at dinner.

For the labels

Name that bottle

  1. Every girl names her perfume. Puns encouraged. Eau de Prosecco is already taken.
  2. Read them out with full launch-event energy.
  3. The table votes on the best name.
  4. The winner tells everyone what her perfume smells like, in character.

The soft one

She smells like

  1. Each girl finishes the sentence: the bride smells like...
  2. A memory, not a perfume. Sunscreen at the beach in Year 10. Her mum’s kitchen. The night you met.
  3. The bride guesses who said which.
  4. Have tissues. You’ll need them.

Free ideas from us, not part of any package. Play them before or after the class, so the fragrance expert gets your full attention while they’re talking.

09 the base

The whole hens around the perfume making

A class ends at the door. This is where the day keeps going, and nobody has to find a dinner table for nine on a Saturday.

  3. Night, the velvetAn easy teeter down a laneway, cover charge waived, a velvet VIP booth held for two hours, and a surprise bottle of bubbly arrives for the bride. The dance floor is right there. One more spritz and back out you go.

Add-ons for this shape: a three-hour booth with two drinks each, a two-hour drinks package in your room, a topless waiter in your private room, or custom hens cookies with her name on them.

11 will it suit our lot?

Who a hens perfume class suits

The classiest thing on the hens menu that still ends with eight girls spritzing each other in a booth.

The bride who can name your perfume from across the room

She has a bathroom shelf of bottles and an opinion on every one of them. This is her favourite hobby, with her favourite people, and a bottle at the end with her name on it.

The classy, low-key, wellness bride

She wants a beautiful day, not a messy one. Perfume making is calm, clever and very pretty on camera, and the natural version suits the girl who lives on green juice.

Mum, the aunties and mixed ages

Nothing to perform, nothing to wear that makes anyone nervous, and mum will declare hers “very French” within ten minutes. It works for 25 and 65 at the same table.

Non-drinkers and a pregnant bride

The class doesn’t depend on drinking. Tell us who’s skipping the cocktails when you enquire and we’ll look at every stop with them in mind. Expecting? Tell us when you enquire, so the fragrance expert knows before the day.

Girls who don’t know each other

It’s impossible to stay strangers while you’re holding a scent strip under someone’s nose. By the second bottle, the uni friends and the work friends have formed an alliance.

Small crews

Our ready-made Melbourne perfume days start at six girls, bride included. Smaller than that, or in another city? Tell us your number and we’ll build it around you.

Kerry-lee's daughter and her hens group in pink sashes

“Hi Chloe, I wanted to thankyou for the amazing night you put together for Emma's hens night. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with everybody from yourselves in the office. My daughter and all the guests has a fantastic time, so again, thankyou. Kind Regards Kerry-lee”

Kerry-lee, the bride’s mum, BrisbaneA mum who booked her daughter’s hens with us.

“Honestly, I was nervous about the price point of going out as we couldn't decide if we should just have it at my house and nearly talked myself out of it twice. Josh who helped me find our package remembered I'd mentioned during my first chat that we weren't sure if a drinks package would be good value for us because not many of us are big drinkers, and he agreed with me and found a package at a lower price point so I really appreciated that and felt really looked after. He actually cared about us finding a package that suited us which I really appreciated. Really overjoyed with the outcome and so was Rachel the bride and her very fussy mum as well. Thank you to the whole team but especially to Josh.”

Jennifer, on GoogleA crew of light drinkers, and a very fussy mum.

“I booked a hens with this company for my cousin and didn't actually know any of the other girls attending, which can sometimes be a bit awkward when being the organiser, but it ended up being the best hens I've ever been to even if I do say so myself haha

We did one of the pamper party packages with the accomodation for some of us as well and it was really good. If you're reading this and wondering whether you should book the package… just do it. It was soooooo good!”

Emily Osmond, on GoogleShe booked a pamper party for a cousin, and didn’t know a single other guest.

Illustration with invented names, not a real conversation.

“I was a MOH for the first time and feeling the pressure because she is not into the tacky hens thing at all. What I liked most was that Britt actually understood the difference between 'things to do on a hens' and planning a good hens that felt like an actual celebration not a bunch of bookings together because obviously I could have booked a cocktail class and dinner or whatever myself obviously. I only realised after that I just wouldn't have known which combination would suit our group, what order to do it all in or half the little details and personalised touches for the bride that made the whole night what it was. So there's definitely more thought behind these packages than I realised before booking and she absolutely loved it and apparently I'm now the designated event organiser of the group. Would 100% use them again and a big thankyou to Britt and Maddi as well for everything that went into making it so good!”

Vanessa S, on GoogleA first-time maid of honour, for a bride who isn’t into the tacky hens thing.

“Our night flowed really well, no stuffing around and most importantly I got to actually enjoy my friends hens instead of playing event manager all night because everything had already been thought through. The timing, what was included, where we'd go next, what suited the 9 girls we had and honestly, I didn't properly realise how much difference that would make until the actual night itself. It felt like a proper event rather than us just meeting at a few places Han loved every part of it and even said how did you do and find all this?? So that was the review from her I needed and I would use them again in a heartbeat!”

Jess Mitchelson-Hall, on GoogleAn organiser who got to be at the hens, not run it.

Same blending, same bottle to take home. The difference is everything around it, booked once, with your online portal and a page for the girls.

Jaime's hens group raising shot glasses at a bar

“Good morning Everyone, Happy Tuesday! I just wanted to touch base after my weekend away and say THANK YOU! Myself and all my Girls had an absolutely amazing time with many laughs and memories. Our accommodation was great and I cannot recommend enough your venue on Darling Harbour - I will certainly be going back there, the food was lovely, the cocktails strong and the music was fantastic - Loved it!

The ladies who came to our room for the pamper experience were beautiful, so professional and provided an incredible service, everyone LOVED it and again I cannot recommend them enough. It was so great that everyone was able to be in the room together, chat and have a few drinks during this time - I would highly recommend other groups consider having the in room experience over going to a day spa as it is so relaxed. Thank you again to everyone for all your help, taking the stress out of everything and arranging a fantastic weekend. Jaime :) x”

Jaime, SydneyAn in-room pamper at the accommodation: the way a perfume bar at the hens house works too.

“The most amazing experience dealing with My Ultimate Hens. They organised an incredible weekend filled with numerous activities. From flower crown making, to cocktail making to cruising around in a fire engine, just to name a few, with all the girls. My ultimate you went above and beyond and I can't stop talking about your company. Thank you!!!”

Cassie Barker, on GoogleA hands-on making class inside a whole weekend.

“Thank you to the amazing My Ultimate team especially to Tash for helping me plan the best Hens for my sister. It was planned so perfectly more than I have expected! Tash and her team are so helpful and very informative and they go above and beyond to assist me with everything. Our Hen had a blast and I am absolutely grateful as I couldn't have made it possible without your help. Hands down the best Hens organiser in Sydney! I will highly recommend you ladies to everyone! 17 asked and answered

Hens perfume making questions

The ones the group chat will ask you, answered before they do. Anything about booking in general lives on our FAQ page.

Do we need any experience to make perfume at a hens?

No experience and no “good nose” needed. The fragrance expert walks everyone through each scent and how a perfume builds from top to base, then helps each girl blend her own, so the first-timer and the bride with forty bottles at home both walk out with something they love.

How long does a hens perfume class take?

Our ready-made Melbourne perfume days give you two hours of private room for the blending. After that the day keeps going: share plates at your reserved table, then a two-hour VIP booth. In other cities, tell us how long you’d like it and we shape the day around it.

What do we take home from a perfume making hens?

Every guest takes home her own perfume in a glass bottle with a custom label, plus a personalised scent profile card that captures what she made. Bottle size depends on the class, so ask us when you enquire if it matters to you.

Is perfume making a day or night hens activity?

It works for both. Our Melbourne perfume days start with the blending in the afternoon and carry on into a VIP booth at night. A daytime version with high tea or bubbles is on request, and it’s the one to pick if noses and mum are the priority.

Can mum and the older guests join in?

Yes, and it’s one of the easiest classes for them to love. Perfume making is seated, social and calm, there’s nothing to perform, and every age at the table gets the same bottle to take home.

Does perfume making work for non-drinkers or a pregnant bride?

The class itself doesn’t depend on drinking, so non-drinkers are completely at home. Tell us who isn’t drinking when you enquire. If the bride or a guest is pregnant, tell us when you enquire, so it’s part of the conversation with the fragrance expert before anything is booked.

What if someone has sensitive skin or allergies?

Tell us when you enquire, so the fragrance expert knows before the day. If your group would rather stick to essential oils and botanicals, ask about the natural perfume version.

What’s the difference between natural perfume and classic perfume making?

Natural perfume is blended from essential oils and botanicals, usually into a roll-on, and classic perfume making is the one our Melbourne days run: a fragrance expert, a table of scents, and a glass bottle with a custom label. Both are hands-on and both go home with you. Tell us which suits her when you enquire.

Is the perfume class private?

Our ready-made Melbourne perfume days are: your group gets its own private room in the CBD for two hours, just you, the bride and the fragrance expert. In other cities, tell us you’d like it private and we check it first.

How many people do we need for a perfume making hens?

Our Melbourne perfume days start from 6, 8 or 9 people depending on the package, bride included, with no maximum. Smaller group, or a different city? Tell us your number and we’ll build around it.

Can the bride make the perfume she wears on her wedding day?

She can if she wants to. The hens blend makes a lovely wedding scent audition, and every bridesmaid takes her own bottle home too. Keep her scent profile card safe, and ask us if she falls in love with it. More on the wedding scent.

Can we have a perfume bar at our hens accommodation?

A perfume bar at the accommodation is on request in her city. The set-up depends on the space and timing, so tell us where you’re staying when you enquire and we check it first.

Which cities can we do hens perfume making in?

Melbourne has ready-made perfume packages. In Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth and Adelaide, perfume making is on request and built for your group. Pick her city.

Is perfume making a hens trend?

Yes. In our own search research, Australian Google searches for perfume making have grown about 27 times over five years and doubled in the last twelve months, the fastest rise of any class we track. It has overtaken candle making as the scent class people look for, and the perfume bar and the bride’s wedding scent are the trends coming next.

Can we make cologne or solid perfume instead?

Ask us. Solid perfume, a cologne for the groom, or a scent session paired with a sound bath can all be requested, and we tell you what’s possible in her city.

How much does a perfume making hens cost?

Our Melbourne perfume days sit between about $290 and $330 per person for the whole day, and the bigger the group, the lower it tends to go. See the prices by group size.
