Beads, charms, glass and a glass of bubbly

01 the short answer

What happens at a jewellery making hens party

Bubbly, a tray of sparkle, and two hours of everyone suddenly very serious about colour.

A jewellery making hens party with My Ultimate Hens is a hosted workshop where every girl makes her own pieces to keep, charm bracelets, statement earrings or fused glass depending on her city, with drinks built in and the night carrying on after: a VIP booth in Melbourne, nightclub entry in Perth and Adelaide.

  1. Your spot is set. Your own table, room or studio is ready when you walk in, with a glass of bubbly each at the charm and earring tables.
  2. The tray comes out. Glass beads, metal charms and findings, or a studio’s worth of coloured glass, plus every tool you need. Your host is right there among the girls.
  3. Two pieces each, at least. About two hours at the charm table, two and a half in the glass studio, an afternoon of earrings in Perth and Adelaide, and nobody leaves with only one thing.
  4. The wrist stack. Every bracelet held together for one photo. That’s the one the group chat keeps.
  5. Then it all goes out. A VIP booth with a bottle of bubbly for her, or the dance floor, with the charms and earrings already on.

04 the dress code

What to wear to a jewellery making hens party

The only rock she has to wear is already on her finger. Everything else, the girls are about to make.

Pearls on everyone

All in

Pearl clips, pearl headbands, a little white for her. The group photo looks planned, because it was.

One hero piece

Everyone wears the one piece she’d save in a fire. It sets the bar at the table and starts the best conversations.

Just the bride

She sparkles, everyone else keeps it simple, and the new pieces go on as the night goes on.

Melbourne · crews of 6 and up

  1. Afternoon. Velvet chesterfields and hanging plants at our glam cocktail lounge, a glass of bubbly each and your seating already waiting.
  2. The charms come out. Two hours with your artist host, a cocktail each and a grazing platter for the table. Two finished pieces per girl.
  3. The wrist stack. Every bracelet together for the photo before you leave.
  4. Night. Into the city: VIP entry with the cover charge waived, a velvet booth held for two hours, and a surprise bottle of bubbly for her. The dance floor is right there.

Why it runs this way: the beads need daylight and steady hands. The booth needs neither.

09 her people

Who a jewellery making hens suits

Nobody has to dance, drink or perform. Everybody goes home with something.

Mum and the aunties

A table, a tray and a task is the great leveller. Mum might just make the bride’s favourite piece, and somebody’s aunty turns out to be a natural.

Mixed ages

Eighteen to eighty can sit at the same bead table. The cousin does the photos, nan does the clasps.

The ones who don’t drink

The fun is in her hands, not her glass. Grab the zero-proof jug above for the pre-drinks, and tell us about the non-drinkers when you enquire.

A pregnant bride

Seated, hands busy, and still the biggest audience for every piece she makes. Tell us when you enquire and we’ll walk you through each table.

Girls who’ve never met

A shared tray does the introductions. By the second charm, everyone is choosing pieces for each other.

Small crews and big ones

Melbourne runs it for crews of six and up. Perth and Adelaide run statement earrings for twelve and up.

Hi Chloe, I wanted to thankyou for the amazing night you put together for Emma's hens night. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with everybody from yourselves in the office. My daughter and all the guests has a fantastic time, so again, thankyou. Kind Regards Kerry-lee

Kerry-lee, mother of the bride, Brisbane

I booked a hens with this company for my cousin and didn't actually know any of the other girls attending, which can sometimes be a bit awkward when being the organiser, but it ended up being the best hens I've ever been to even if I do say so myself haha

We did one of the pamper party packages with the accomodation for some of us as well and it was really good. If you're reading this and wondering whether you should book the package… just do it. It was soooooo good!

Emily Osmond, Google. She organised her cousin’s pamper hens without knowing any of the other girls.

Honestly, I was nervous about the price point of going out as we couldn't decide if we should just have it at my house and nearly talked myself out of it twice. Josh who helped me find our package remembered I'd mentioned during my first chat that we weren't sure if a drinks package would be good value for us because not many of us are big drinkers, and he agreed with me and found a package at a lower price point so I really appreciated that and felt really looked after. He actually cared about us finding a package that suited us which I really appreciated. Really overjoyed with the outcome and so was Rachel the bride and her very fussy mum as well. Thank you to the whole team but especially to Josh.

Jennifer, Google. Her crew weren’t big drinkers, and the bride’s mum was “very fussy”.

Illustration, with invented messages. The shapes behind it are real (see the whole night, above).

  • The drinks. Plenty of jewellery classes are BYO. Ours come with the drinks built in, from a glass of bubbly each to a bottle in the booth.
  • The after. A class ends at the studio door. Ours ends in a VIP booth or on a dance floor.
  • The bride. A class teaches a technique. A hens makes her the centre of the table, then the night.
  • The organiser. One plan to send the girls, one payment for the whole group, and you get to be at the table instead of on your phone.

I was a MOH for the first time and feeling the pressure because she is not into the tacky hens thing at all. What I liked most was that Britt actually understood the difference between 'things to do on a hens' and planning a good hens that felt like an actual celebration not a bunch of bookings together because obviously I could have booked a cocktail class and dinner or whatever myself obviously. I only realised after that I just wouldn't have known which combination would suit our group, what order to do it all in or half the little details and personalised touches for the bride that made the whole night what it was. So there's definitely more thought behind these packages than I realised before booking and she absolutely loved it and apparently I'm now the designated event organiser of the group. Would 100% use them again and a big thankyou to Britt and Maddi as well for everything that went into making it so good!

Hi My Ultimate Hens Night Team! I just wanted to say a huge thankyou to everyone for everything you helped me with for the Hen night we held for Cat on Saturday. It was even better than we could have imagined. Warmest regards, Donna

Donna, Brisbane. Cat’s crew made flower crowns.

The most amazing experience dealing with My Ultimate Hens. They organised an incredible weekend filled with numerous activities. From flower crown making, to cocktail making to cruising around in a fire engine, just to name a few, with all the girls. My ultimate you went above and beyond and I can't stop talking about your company. Thank you!!!

Cassie Barker, Google. Flower crowns, cocktails and a fire engine.

Our night flowed really well, no stuffing around and most importantly I got to actually enjoy my friends hens instead of playing event manager all night because everything had already been thought through. The timing, what was included, where we'd go next, what suited the 9 girls we had and honestly, I didn't properly realise how much difference that would make until the actual night itself. It felt like a proper event rather than us just meeting at a few places Han loved every part of it and even said how did you do and find all this?? So that was the review from her I needed and I would use them again in a heartbeat!

15 asked a lot

Jewellery making hens party questions

The ones the group chat asks before anyone says yes.

What do you make at a jewellery making hens party?

What you make at a jewellery making hens depends on the city: charm bracelets and necklaces in Melbourne (two finished pieces each), statement earrings in Perth and Adelaide (two pairs each), or a whole fused glass collection in a private Melbourne studio, from rings and earrings to necklaces, hair clips and brooches.

Do we need to be crafty?

No one needs to be crafty, because every table has someone running it: an artist host at the charm table, a hostess with all the tips and tricks for earrings, and an expert instructor with a template in the glass studio. The girl who swears she can’t make anything might end up taking orders.

How long does a jewellery making class take at a hens?

A jewellery making class at a hens runs about two hours at the charm table, two and a half in the glass studio, and an afternoon of earrings in Perth and Adelaide. The night carries on after it: a two-hour VIP booth in Melbourne, or nightclub entry in Perth and Adelaide.

Do we take the jewellery home on the day?

Charm pieces and statement earrings, yes: they go straight on and out for the night. Glass is the one to check: tell us your date in the form and we’ll confirm when those pieces come home.

Is there bubbly while we make?

Yes, there’s a glass of bubbly each on arrival at the charm table and the earring workshops, plus a cocktail and grazing at the charm afternoon and grazing with a bonus cocktail for her in Perth. In the glass studio the cocktails come straight after, with share plates.

How many people do we need for a jewellery making hens?

Six or more in Melbourne and twelve or more in Perth and Adelaide, bride included. That number is the minimum, not a cap, and if you’re expecting fewer, tell us how many when you enquire.

Can we make rings at a jewellery making hens?

Yes, rings are on the menu in the Melbourne glass studio, alongside earrings, necklaces, hair clips and brooches: a whole collection each.

Which cities run jewellery making hens parties?

Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide run it as its own hens. In Sydney, clay earrings are one of the pieces you can make at a pottery hens, and every city page has the rest of her night.

How much does a jewellery making hens party cost?

Most My Ultimate Hens jewellery making nights sit between about $150 and $380 per person: about $150 in Perth and Adelaide (crews of 12 or more), and about $250 to $380 in Melbourne (crews of 6 and up). Every package shows its own price.

Does a jewellery making hens work for mums, nans and non-drinkers?

A jewellery making hens is one of the easiest for a mixed crew, because the fun is in everyone’s hands rather than their glass. Nobody has to dance or perform, and mum might just end up with the best piece at the table.

Can the bridesmaids make matching pieces for the wedding?

Matching bridesmaid pieces are the whole idea of the glass studio: pick the colours and shapes together and the bridal party ends up with a matching set. A charm bracelet made at her hens might just make it down the aisle too.

What does the bride get?

The bride gets the biggest audience for every piece she makes, and a surprise or two: a bottle of bubbly in the VIP booth in Melbourne, her own surprise kit and a bonus cocktail on the glass night, and a bonus cocktail at the Perth earring workshop.

What should we wear to a jewellery making hens party?

Wear something you can sit and work in that still looks good in the booth photo, with sleeves that stay out of the bead tray. The dress code picker above has four group-chat-ready themes.

Can we add a limo or more drinks?

Yes, depending on the city: a limo with a glass of bubbly each, a longer VIP booth with drinks, or a drinks package. Each package lists the extras it can take.

Can we do permanent jewellery at a hens?

Permanent jewellery isn’t one of our packages. For the stacked-wrist photo, the charm bracelet table gets you there with bubbly in hand.

Is a jewellery making hens the same as a bachelorette jewellery party?

Yes, it’s the American name for a hens. Here it comes with the bubbly, the night out and her whole crew around her.

How do we book a jewellery making hens party?

You secure it with just your own share. About three days later the second part of the deposit is charged, and if the group doesn’t love the plan, tell us before then and what you’ve paid becomes a credit towards another package. Final numbers and the final payment are usually due three weeks before.
