01 the short answer antipasto

What happens at a hens cooking class

Nobody needs to be able to cook. Everybody needs to be hungry.

A hens cooking class with My Ultimate Hens is a hands-on class with a chef, from gnocchi and pizza to cake decorating, dumplings or sushi, then a sit-down feast of what the girls made, with the rest of her hens built around it: in Melbourne a whole day that finishes in a reserved VIP booth, on the Gold Coast a pizza cook-off in teams with platters and hens games, and in any city a class we build into her day.

  1. A brick walled Italian class room with mixing bowls set out on long timber tables and wine on the shelves
    Benvenuto

Walk into an Italian dining room

Exposed brick, warm light, wine bottles on the walls and the bowls already set out. A freshly brewed coffee on the shared class days, a glass of bubbly each on the private ones.

  2. Women in chef hats and aprons rolling gnocchi along a long marble table
    Sleeves up

The chef shows you the secret

A hands-on masterclass: perfect gnocchi rolled from scratch, or pizza dough stretched and topped by every pair of hands at the table. Even the friend who burns toast gets there.

  3. Two women laughing while eating pizza at an outdoor table
    Pranzo

    Lunch on what you made

Everyone sits down to the gnocchi they rolled or the pizzas they stretched. The first toast goes to the bride, with a glass of house wine or a soft drink on the shared days and a surprise cocktail for her on the private ones. On the shared class days everyone leaves with their handmade gnocchi or pizza dough and a goodie bag, so the bride can cook for him next week and take all the credit.

Chef-led and hands-onGnocchi or pizzaLunch on what you madeCrews from 6, bride included

That's the Melbourne class day, and it keeps going: a rooftop or a breather, and a VIP booth that night. On the Gold Coast the class is a pizza cook-off in teams, with grazing platters and hens games at the table. See the whole day.

02 her call primi

Hens cooking classes, from pasta and gnocchi to pizza

Two doughs, two ways to do the room, and as much cheek as she wants on the side.

Gnocchi and pizza are the house specials: whole days ready to book, led by a chef, and you eat what you made. In Melbourne you choose the dough, then whether the class is shared with other food lovers or yours alone. On the Gold Coast it's a private pizza cook-off for big crews. On the shared class days, either dough swaps for the other at the same price. Cake decorating, dumplings, sushi, tapas and more are on the rest of the menu.

Shared class, or the room to yourselves

On a shared class day your crew learns alongside other food lovers, which is half the fun for a group that likes to chat, and everyone takes home their handmade gnocchi or dough and a goodie bag. On a private class day the chef is there for your group alone, so the jokes can get as cheeky as the girls like, and the entertainment walks in mid-class.

A drag queen in pink sequins beside the bride in a veil and heart sunglasses

Private gnocchi, with a drag queen

Hands in the dough, then the door swings open: a private drag queen for thirty minutes, a performance, a hens game with the bride front and centre, then selfies before she sashays out.

Private pizza, with a topless waiter

He pours the drinks, runs the hens games and poses for as many photos as the bride wants, for two hours, for your group and nobody else's. Nobody is looking at the pizza.

The queen and the waiter swap too: a gnocchi crew can have the waiter for the same price, and a pizza crew can bring in the queen for a little extra. How cheeky it gets is her call.

Pizza cook-off, the Gold Coast

The bride squad splits into teams at cooking stations in a Tuscan-style Italian restaurant in Surfers Paradise, and the chef host runs the challenges: who can spin the perfect dough, build the best topping combo, beat the clock. May the best team win. Then the pizzas you made land on the table with grazing platters, and the hens games start.

As the Maid of Honour, planning the perfect hen's night four our girl felt like a lot of pressure, I wanted something unforgettable, fun, a little bit cheeky, but classy enough that the bride and groom's mums could still enjoy themselves! Let me just say, My Ultimate Hens delivered absolutely everything and then some!

From the very first enquiry, the team was so helpful and professional. They worked with me to customise the night to suit our bride's vibe, she wanted equal parts glam, girly, and wild. Every single detail was thought through from the VIP access, to the entertainment (which was fire), to the delicious food and drinks. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Highlights? The private rooftop area was stunning, the games had us crying laughing, and our bride felt like an absolute queen the entire time. It was the perfect mix of laughter, drinks, dancing, and a little bit of tasteful naughtiness. I didn't have to stress on the night and could actually relax and enjoy myself knowing the bride was in good hands. If you're a Maid of Honour or bridesmaid trying to plan an epic hen's night, do yourself a favour and book a My Ultimate Hen's package. Our group is still talking about it, and you've set the bar very high for future events. Thank you for making our girl's send-off into married life totally unforgettable

Carlina D., maid of honour, Easy Weddings verified review, 5 stars. She wanted it cheeky but classy enough for both mums: VIP access, entertainment and a private rooftop area.

Gnocchi and pizza are the house specials. The rest of the menu is just as hers.

Every class below is one we book for hens through our cooking schools, chefs and hosts, then build into the rest of her day. Not every class runs in every city, so tell us which one is her when you check her date and we'll come back with what's on in hers.

Cake decorating

A turntable each, a piping bag that has a mind of its own, and a long table of naked cakes waiting for buttercream. Rosettes, drips, meringue kisses and far too many sprinkles, then a cake every girl is unreasonably proud of. The sweetest hens cooking class there is, and the one mum will talk about at the wedding.

the details
  • A woman placing meringue kisses on a drip cake with a bowl of sprinkles

    Chocolate and dessert making

Truffles, tarts, meringues and the kind of dessert you'd never attempt alone. Dessert first, for once.

  • Cookie decorating

Royal icing, tiny piping bags and a dozen "Bride to Be" biscuits that are too pretty to eat for about ten minutes. Custom hens cookies with her name are an add-on on some Melbourne days too.

  • Dumpling making, with or without cocktails

Pleating, pinching and a lot of competitive folding, then a feed of what you made. Shaken cocktails on the side if the crew wants a cocktail and dumpling class.

  • Sushi and gyoza making

Rolling mats, sticky rice and a gyoza fold that takes three goes to master. Neat, social and very photogenic.

  • Spanish tapas and paella

A pan the size of a table, a long lunch of tapas, and a jug of sangria if the crew wants one. Holiday energy, no passport.

  • Mexican cooking and taco making

Tortillas by hand, salsa with opinions and a taco-folding rivalry nobody saw coming.

  • Cheese making

Fresh mozzarella or ricotta stretched and set by hand, then eaten while it's still warm. Gentle, curious and very mum-friendly.

  • A grazing table of cheeses, crackers, jams, prosciutto, strawberries and grapes by a candelabra

    Grazing and charcuterie board styling

Folded salami roses, cheese at jaunty angles, strawberries tucked into every gap. Everyone builds a board, then nobody has to cook dinner.

  • A mystery box or cook-off challenge

Teams, a clock and a chef judging. The Gold Coast pizza cook-off is ready to book; tell us her crew and we can turn any class into a competition.

  • A private chef at your accommodation

The chef comes to you: a cooking class in the hens house, or a long dinner cooked in front of you while the girls get ready.

What to wear to a hens cooking class

Flour finds everyone. Dress like you know that and you look forward to it.

Wear something you'd happily get a little flour on and shoes you're happy to stand at a bench in, then pick how far the group goes with the theme.

10 the table a tavola

Who a hens cooking class suits

Set the table for everyone she loves, including the ones who never usually come out.

A hens cooking class suits almost any group, because everyone has something to do with their hands and something to talk about straight away. Here's how it sits with the people organisers ask us about most. For more, see our hens ideas for all ages and pregnant bride hens party ideas.

The foodie bride

She plans holidays around where to eat and judges a restaurant by its bread. This is her hens told in her own language, and she gets to eat the evidence.

Mum, the aunties and his mum

A bench, a chef and a sit-down lunch is the easiest invitation to give the older guests. The gnocchi class with no entertainment is the gentle version; they can head home after lunch or stay for the booth. On the Gold Coast the pizza cook-off is suitable for all ages, so nan can join the team.

Non-drinkers and a pregnant bride

The day is built around food, not shots. On the shared class days the drink with lunch is a glass of house wine or a soft drink, her pick, and nobody's counting.

Girls who've never met

The school friends meet the work friends over a ball of dough. By the time the bases are stretched they're swapping stories about the bride she'd rather they didn't.

Allergies and dietary needs

Whatever is on the crew's no list, tell us when you check her date and it's catered for. Nobody sits out the eating part.

A small crew

Cooking class days start at 6 of you, bride included, in Melbourne, and the Gold Coast cook-off is for 15 or more. Every package number is a minimum, with no maximum.

The cheeky ones

Add the private class with a drag queen or a topless waiter and the same lunch gets a lot louder. The bride decides how far it goes.

Honestly, I was nervous about the price point of going out as we couldn't decide if we should just have it at my house and nearly talked myself out of it twice. Josh who helped me find our package remembered I'd mentioned during my first chat that we weren't sure if a drinks package would be good value for us because not many of us are big drinkers, and he agreed with me and found a package at a lower price point so I really appreciated that and felt really looked after. He actually cared about us finding a package that suited us which I really appreciated. Really overjoyed with the outcome and so was Rachel the bride and her very fussy mum as well. Thank you to the whole team but especially to Josh.

Jennifer, Google review, 5 stars. A crew who weren't big drinkers.

I booked a hens with this company for my cousin and didn't actually know any of the other girls attending, which can sometimes be a bit awkward when being the organiser, but it ended up being the best hens I've ever been to even if I do say so myself haha

We did one of the pamper party packages with the accomodation for some of us as well and it was really good. If you're reading this and wondering whether you should book the package… just do it. It was soooooo good!

Emily Osmond, Google review, 5 stars. She organised it without knowing the other girls.

Molly is amazing!! I had so many questions, needed to work into budgets and potential pregnant guests. Molly gave me a tonne of options, responded to my emails quickly and made the whole journey of planning a hen's weekend a breeze! Highly recommend to anyone wanting a destination hens weekend

I was a MOH for the first time and feeling the pressure because she is not into the tacky hens thing at all. What I liked most was that Britt actually understood the difference between 'things to do on a hens' and planning a good hens that felt like an actual celebration not a bunch of bookings together because obviously I could have booked a cocktail class and dinner or whatever myself obviously. I only realised after that I just wouldn't have known which combination would suit our group, what order to do it all in or half the little details and personalised touches for the bride that made the whole night what it was. So there's definitely more thought behind these packages than I realised before booking and she absolutely loved it and apparently I'm now the designated event organiser of the group. Would 100% use them again and a big thankyou to Britt and Maddi as well for everything that went into making it so good!

  3. About three days later, the second part of the deposit is charged. If the group doesn't love the plan, tell us before then and what you've paid becomes a credit towards another package.
  4. Final numbers and the final payment are due on the date in your booking, usually three weeks before.

Hens cooking class questions

The ones the group chat asks, answered before you have to.

Do we need to be able to cook for a hens cooking class?

No. The chef shows everyone the secret from scratch, and even the friend who burns toast ends up rolling gnocchi or stretching a base. Being hungry helps more than being good.

What do you make at a hens cooking class?

Whatever she'd order. Gnocchi and pizza are the ready-made days: a gnocchi class rolls pillowy little parcels by hand, a pizza class kneads, stretches and tops its own bases, and you eat what you made. We also book cake decorating, chocolate and dessert, cookie decorating, dumplings, sushi and gyoza, tapas and paella, Mexican, cheese making and grazing boards, built into her day.

Can we do a cake decorating class for a hens?

Yes. A cake decorating hens is buttercream, piping bags and a turntable each, with everyone leaving very proud of a cake. It's one of the sweetest classes for a mixed-age crew; tell us her city and her date and we'll build it into her day.

Can we book a dumpling or sushi making class for a hens?

Yes. Dumpling making (with cocktails if the crew wants them), sushi and gyoza, tapas and paella and Mexican classes are all on the menu. Not every class runs in every city, so we'll tell you what's on in hers when we check her date.

Can we have a private chef at our hens accommodation?

Yes, ask for it. A private chef can run a cooking class in the hens house or cook a long dinner while the girls get ready, and we'll fit it around the rest of her weekend.

How long is a hens cooking class?

It depends on the class and the city, so we confirm the exact timings when we check her date. In Melbourne the class runs straight into lunch on what you made, nobody rushes you out afterwards, and the VIP booth that night is held for your group for two hours.

Can a hens cooking class cater for dietary needs?

Yes. Tell us about any allergies or dietary needs in the crew when you check her date, and they're catered for. Nobody sits out the eating part.

Is a hens cooking class a day or a night activity?

Both, in Melbourne: the class and lunch happen in the daytime, then the day runs through a rooftop bar or a breather and finishes in a VIP booth that night. On the Gold Coast the pizza cook-off is an afternoon of challenges and a feast.

Is the cooking class private?

It can be. On the Melbourne shared class days your crew learns alongside other food lovers; on the private days the chef is there for your group alone, with a drag queen or a topless waiter joining you. The Gold Coast cook-off is a private class.

Can we add a drag queen or a topless waiter to a hens cooking class?

Yes. The private gnocchi class comes with a thirty minute drag queen performance and hens game, and the private pizza class comes with a topless waiter for two hours. They swap too: a gnocchi crew can have the waiter for the same price, and a pizza crew can bring in the queen for a little extra.

Can mum and the older guests join a hens cooking class?

Yes, and it's one of the easiest hens to invite them to: a bench, a chef and a sit-down meal. The Melbourne shared class with no entertainment is the gentlest version, and the Gold Coast cook-off is suitable for all ages.

Does a hens cooking class work for non-drinkers or a pregnant bride?

Yes. The day is built around food, and on the shared class days the drink with lunch is a glass of house wine or a soft drink. Order soft drinks in the booth and nobody needs to know.

Do we take anything home from a hens cooking class?

On the shared class days, yes: everyone takes home their handmade gnocchi or pizza dough and a goodie bag.

Is dinner included?

On the Gold Coast, the pizzas you make are the meal, with grazing platters. In Melbourne, lunch is the meal and it's the one you made; dinner isn't part of the day, so the crew can freshen up and eat their way before the booth, or you can add tapas and a drink before the booth to keep everyone together.

How many people do we need for a hens cooking class?

Melbourne cooking class days start at 6 people, bride included, and some versions start at 8 or 9; the Gold Coast cook-off is for 15 or more. Every package's number is its minimum, with no maximum. Fewer than the minimum? Tell us how many and we'll find what suits.

What does a hens cooking class cost?

Most My Ultimate Hens cooking class hens sit between about $120 and $380 per person: about $120 for the Gold Coast pizza cook-off for 15 or more, about $290 to $350 for Melbourne days for 8 or more, and about $330 to $380 for Melbourne days for 6 or 7. Every package shows its own price.

Which cities run hens cooking classes?

Every city we celebrate in. Melbourne has ready-made gnocchi and pizza days, shared or private, for crews of 6 or more, and the Gold Coast has a private pizza cook-off for 15 or more. In Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, tell us which class is her and we'll come back with what's on in her city.

What do we wear to a hens cooking class?

Something you don't mind getting a little flour on, and flat shoes you can stand at a bench in. Bring the heels for the booth that night. The bride gets the veil or the sash.

What's trending for hens cooking classes?

Pasta. Searches for pasta making classes in Australia are up 3.3 times over five years, and pasta is the biggest cooking class search we measured. Cooking class searches overall are up 59%, and pizza making class searches in Melbourne are up 21% over the past twelve months.

What's a hens cooking class called overseas?

In the UK it's a hen do cooking class, and in the US it's a bachelorette cooking class. Same flour, different accent.
