She's Painting The Town. The Living Room Goes First. Brush With Destiny Weekend.
Every friendship group has at least one girl who swears she used to be the creative one. Hand the bride and her favourite people a paintbrush each and you find out who was telling the truth. Brush With Destiny Weekend gives her a canvas of her own and a night out to show it off, starting at the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment and finishing with cocktails in the city.
The Bach Pad doesn't stay tidy for long. Within minutes there's a dispute over the playlist and someone has claimed the best corner of the couch. Then the grazing boxes arrive, sweet and savoury, spread across the table like a still life nobody intends to leave alone.
Your My Ultimate Hens artist host arrives carrying everything you'll need, right down to an apron each, which going by some of the brushwork is a very smart call. Canvases go up, and the painting builds one easy layer at a time, each stage shown first and then handed over. That's when it gets interesting.
It starts careful, a little colour here and a line there. A few sips of your own bubbles later, the brushstrokes get braver and the commentary gets louder. Everyone follows exactly the same steps and not one canvas looks alike, which says a lot about this lot. The bride's canvas draws a small crowd of advisers, all of whom she politely ignores.
With the canvases drying against the wall, the brushes don't get packed away. They just get smaller. Paint makes way for eyeshadow, and the blending at the mirror is taken every bit as seriously as the painting was. There's a smudge of paint on at least one elbow and nobody is saying a word.
Then it's opening night, hosted by our city cocktail bar. Your reserved table, with a cocktail each, gets the launch party started. Share plates keep coming, made for passing round, and the bride, our artist of honour, gets a bonus cocktail. The talk moves well past the brushwork into the stories you only tell in person.
When the girls get home, the paintings are waiting right where you left them, and the couch turns into an art panel. Every canvas gets a louder critique than the last. The one everybody secretly thinks is best never gets named out loud. By morning, the critics have softened considerably.
Everyone goes home with a canvas of her own, hung proudly and, in at least one house, slightly crooked. Hers goes somewhere she'll see it every day.
