If your hen is the one who already sets a beautiful table, you've found her day. She's the friend whose place everyone ends up at, so this time every table is laid for her. Just the six of you, bride included, starting with glass in your own studio and finishing in a velvet booth in the laneways.
It begins in your own private studio room. Bring your favourite bubbly, because the fridge is waiting and the glasses are ready to pour. Your expert instructor walks you through glass fusing with every tool and material laid out, and over two hours each of you makes her own glass vase or platter. Daisy platters and checkerboard vases are long-time favourites with our hens, and no two ever come out the same.
This is the heart of the whole day. Every piece made that afternoon is a keepsake, and a magnificent one. The bride will have hers forever, and so will every one of her closest friends. Years from now it'll be sitting on a shelf, or holding the good cheese on a Sunday, and every time one of you catches sight of it, this whole day comes straight back. That's what earns a piece pride of place.

Then the afternoon moves into the city, to a bar where golden details catch the light and the seating is made for sinking into. Your table is reserved and a glass of bubbly lands in every hand for the first toast. Shared plates arrive in the middle while the stories get going, and the bride has a bonus cocktail all to herself.
When the plates are cleared, a stroll across the city brings you into the laneways, to a chic cocktail bar tucked away where you'd never find it on your own. The cover charge is waived and a velvet booth is yours for two hours, with a bottle of bubbly arriving for the table. This is where the little surprises begin. First, a surprise cocktail lands in front of the bride, just for her. Then out comes a box she never saw coming: custom cookies iced with her name, every single one dressed in her theme. Her face in that moment is the photo of the night, so have every phone ready, because nobody is eating a cookie that pretty until it's been admired from every angle.
When her song comes on, the dance floor is right there. At some point someone will ask what she'll be serving on that platter when you're all eighty, and the answers will get sillier as the night goes on.
Somewhere in that booth, cookie in one hand and cocktail in the other, she'll look around at the girls who made her day, then straight at the one who planned it. That's you.
