Some Commitments Are Better With The Girls. Cocktails & Commitment Weekend.
Teaching this group how to make cocktails feels slightly dangerous, but here we are. The bride has made the biggest commitment of her life, and the girls have decided the only fair response is to make a few of their own: to the long lunch, to the shaker and to staying out until the rooftop calls it. Cocktails & Commitment Weekend is lunch by the river, a hands-on class in a laneway lounge and cocktails up high, with the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment holding the whole thing together.
First, lunch. The girls settle into a reserved table in our bar by the river and a glass of bubbly arrives for everyone, with a cocktail for the bride to start her weekend properly. Share plates from the chef keep landing and doing the rounds. Somebody finally tells the story she's been sitting on since the group chat went quiet on Tuesday, and it has to be told twice.
Then everyone regroups at the Bach Pad to get ready. Somebody's playlist takes over and the shoes by the door start multiplying. Outfits are approved, vetoed and approved again. The bride gets the best chair and the final say on everyone's earrings, which is only fair.
Our laneway cocktail lounge is next, where your My Ultimate Hens mixologist host gets everyone shaking. Three cocktails each, made and shaken by the girls themselves, with the tricks that get the balance right. Share plates keep the table going between rounds. Within minutes someone discovers an alarming natural talent with a cocktail shaker, and the bride's first effort gets the loudest cheer in the room, because of course it does.
By the end, everyone has a favourite she swears she'll make again at home. Whether anyone remembers the exact measurements when that happens is a problem for another day. Our groups get discounted cocktails at the lounge, should anyone fancy a round she didn't have to shake herself.
Then the night climbs to our rooftop bar. The girls have a reserved area, and a cocktail each comes served in jugs to share. The bride's bonus shaken cocktail gets inspected with newly professional eyes. It's very nice being on the customer side of the bar again. For further research, the cocktail menu is discounted for our groups, and nobody is hurrying anyone along. Staying on until close is allowed, encouraged even.
Eventually it's shoes off at the Bach Pad for the debrief. Somebody has appointed herself bartender for every family barbecue from now on. Somebody else is planning a cocktail night at hers. Everyone has a suspicious amount of confidence about what makes a properly balanced drink. One class. Several experts.
