Dress Code: Satin, Eventually. Satin PJs & Something Blue Weekend.
There's a very particular joy in getting dressed up for a day out with the girls, knowing that later the pyjamas go on and nobody is going anywhere. Satin PJs & Something Blue Weekend gives the bride both halves of the perfect hens: lunch and drinks by the river while the outfits still look good, then a night in at the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment with her favourite people. Going out is fun. Knowing when to come home is an art.
Lunch is the long kind, at a reserved table in our riverside restaurant. The bubbly comes round, a glass apiece, and the bride's cocktail turns up before anyone has opened a menu. Not that anyone needs to. The tapas are already chosen and on their way, which saves the usual twenty minutes of reading menus while claiming you're happy with anything. Plates cross the table, the bride gets first pick of everything and nobody argues.
From there, the afternoon carries on at our bar on the water. A reserved area is held for the girls for two hours, and someone pops the bottle of bubbly for the group. Nobody has to work out the next move. The overnight bags are packed and the rest of the day is sorted. Someone raises a glass to something old, something new and whoever was brave enough to pack something blue.
Then comes the part that earns this weekend its luxe credentials. Bags go down at the Bach Pad and the girls go looking for the pool, the spa, the sauna and the steam room in the building, and lunch's conversation picks up in the warm water exactly where it stopped. The Bach Pad isn't where you sleep after the fun. It is the fun.
Then the dress code changes. Out come the satin pyjamas, and yes, one set is a very deliberate shade of blue. Whether the girls coordinate is between them and the group chat. Soon the grazing boxes are delivered, sweet and savoury favourites everywhere, and the coffee table becomes the main event. The bubbles you brought get poured and the hens games come out, with the bride the answer to almost every question.
There's no last orders here, and nobody has to interrupt a perfectly good conversation because a venue wants the table back. The bride is curled up on the couch in satin, the girls who know her best all around her, and the night has no closing time.
Lunch out, bubbly by the water, satin by evening. That's the whole plan, and it's a very good one.
