The Hair Gets Teased First. Abs-olutely Hitched Weekend.
Somebody mentions a male revue in the group chat and everyone goes suspiciously quiet. Then everyone carries on as though they weren't extremely interested. Abs-olutely Hitched Weekend is where that quiet finally ends. She's getting married. It's time somebody called the buff.
It starts at the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment. Bags drop, the playlist goes on and every power point is claimed within seconds. For now, the only thing being teased is everyone's hair. Backcombing brushes do the rounds, heels are tried on and swapped back, and the bride gets first go at the mirror because it's her weekend and nobody would dare argue.
First, the sip. Up at our rooftop bar, a reserved area is yours for two hours, with a bottle of bubbly for the group. Pour the first glasses, toast the bride and enjoy the fact that, after all that talk, you're actually doing it. Should the occasion call for another round, and we suspect it will, our discounted cocktail menu has you covered.
Then, the tease. Your seats at the show are sorted, there's a glass of bubbly each, and topless waiters bring finger food around before the show. Other groups are in for the night too, so the cheering has some competition. Your girls intend to win.
The lights drop and the performers arrive with far more choreography than anyone was braced for. The music lifts, shirts become increasingly optional and the group chat suddenly has a lot of new material. The performers may invite the bride up on stage. If she'd rather stay put, she can cheer from her seat with her girls either side of her. Both count. It's her night, on her terms.
Afterwards, the girls land at our laneway cocktail lounge with the cover charge sorted, a VIP booth held for two hours and a second bottle chilling for the group. The whole show is replayed over the first glass, routines acted out from a seated position, with wildly different accounts of who enjoyed which part most. Then the dancefloor wins, and the booth stays yours between songs.
Later, heels come off at the Bach Pad and everyone collapses onto the couch for the debrief. Favourite moments are discussed in unnecessary detail and at least one routine gets a full encore from the couch. Nobody needs to say it, but somebody will: why did it take us this long?
