Guests of honour don't pour their own drinks, and this weekend the bride and her girls are officially off duty. At Her Service Hens Weekend is the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment, grazing delivered to the door, a topless waiter taking over bar duty, then share plates and two hours of drinks in a laneway lounge. Sometimes a hens doesn't need a deeper reason. Good grazing and very good scenery are reason enough.
The Bach Pad couch fills well past its intended capacity. Then the grazing is delivered, sweet and savoury boxes spread across the table. The drinks you've brought are opened, and the weekend has officially started.
Then comes the knock everyone's been pretending not to wait for. Your topless waiter arrives all smiles and takes over bar duty for two hours, pouring the drinks you've brought while the girls settle into the afternoon. When was the last time your drinks came with a little eye candy? Exactly.
He joins in the hens games too, and turns out to be annoyingly good at them, which only makes the girls more competitive. The bride can be front and centre for the photos or happily cheer from the couch, and either way somebody gets the shot. This particular addition to the Bach Pad deserves documenting.
Once he's gone, the only thing being served at the Bach Pad is looks. The living room turns into a getting ready station, outfits land on every chair and the mirror consultation begins. The bride gets the final word on every look, which is only right on a weekend that's all about her.
Then it's our laneway cocktail lounge, where your reserved seating is waiting and the chef's share plates start arriving with the first round. For two hours the drinks package has you covered with house wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks, and whatever started as share plates very quickly becomes the night out. Our groups get discounted cocktails here too, for anyone who fancies one.
When the plates are cleared, your names are already on the guest list, so there's no reason to call it a night. Stay on and dance. Later, the Bach Pad couch gets its second sitting of the day and any leftover grazing gets raided in party shoes. The debrief can handle the rest.
