This weekend has never met a carb it didn't like. Frankly, nobody here trusts a person who says they're 'not really a bread person'. So when the bride's hens came up, nobody even pretended to consider a salad bar. Pasta La Vista, Single Life Weekend runs on the good stuff from the first coffee to the last toast, with the girls she loves around every table.
It starts, very civilised, with a coffee each at a gnocchi class you share with other food lovers, which only makes your group louder. The chef shows how it's done, and three rolls in there's flour on every sleeve and at least one gnocchi that looks more like modern art than lunch. The bride's are suspiciously neat. Someone asks if she's been practising.
Nobody is banking on brand new gnocchi skills just yet, so the chef serves up gnocchi pomodoro for lunch, with wine or a soft drink, a glass each. The gnocchi you rolled comes home with you, along with a goodie bag, so there's a carb sequel waiting in every fridge.
That gnocchi is carried into the Ultimate Hens Bachelorette Pad Apartment like precious cargo. Shoes off. Pool, spa, sauna, steam room: the afternoon tests every one of them, in no particular order. Then the flour is dusted off and the setting powder takes over. By unanimous vote, the bride has the mirror first.
Round two of the carbs is by the water. Our riverside restaurant has your table reserved, with a glass of bubbly each as you sit and a cocktail for the bride. When the pizzas land they bring salads and fries, because a carb weekend that forgets the humble potato is no carb weekend at all. Hands cross the table constantly and nobody guards a slice, which is real love.
Up next is our rooftop bar, where the carbs take a back seat to the bubbles. Your reserved area is where the bottle of bubbly for the group gets popped, and with the discounted cocktail menu, the round after that is an easy yes. The night stretches out like good dough, the girls can stay on until close, and at some point somebody raises a glass to the gnocchi.
